"Because the Birds Came," by John A. Nieves, has won the 2011 Indiana Review Poetry Prize judged by Marie Howe.

I have recently had a Haydens Ferry Review contributors spotlight: and had a poem featured as Valparaiso Poetry Review Poem of the Week:

My poem, "Cartograph," has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize by the Cincinnati Review November 2012.

My first book, Curio, won the Elixir Press Annual Poetry Award Judges Prize and will be published in early 2014.
